The main focus of my current work is studying human hair biology responsible for hair shape and texture as well as hair follicle aging, commonly perceived as hair graying. Finding the genetic basis for a particular hair shape will allow to develop hair cosmetics able to modulate the levels of target genes and, ultimately, able to shape hair according to our will. Understanding how microRNAs are involved in hair graying is also one of our goals; though the common sense dictates that aging is inevitable and irreversible, hair repigmentation has been reported as a side-effect on the treatment of many diseases, raising the possibility of finding new solutions to recover the loss of hair melanin. Our aim is to reverse hair graying by modulating particular microRNAs levels. My side work projects regard biotechnology and nanotechnology applied to textile, cosmetic and health care industries, mainly in the interface with animal cell biology and microbiology for the extensive biological caracterization of a particular material. |
