CBMA was founded by 18 integrated members belonging to the Department of Biology of the University of Minho and the designation of the Research Unit mirrors a shared motivation and a common vision of science.
As of October 2013, the CBMA comprises an interdisciplinary team of 28 integrated members.
From 2008-12 the team produced 264 international publications. From these 233 were ISI papers, 16% on top-10% journals, 77% Q1 in SCIMAGO, with average h-index of journal publications reaching 95. 50% of publications were a result of international collaborations, the majority of them with the first author, last author and/or corresponding authors belonging to CBMA.
The publication of 3 patents provides another strong contribution to the national scientific and technological system.
The Centre raised 88% of competitive funding and only 12% was provided as basal funding by FCT from 2008-12. CBMA managed 37 projects, securing funding from a large source of agencies, namely international ( EEA Grants, LIFE+, Atlantic Area, CAPES) and European (funding agencies (NMP, KBBE, SME, MC-reintegration Grant, MC-ITN).
