Ana Margarida Pereira, doctoral student at the Department of Biology, won the 2nd Prize in the Photography Contest "Science in the Transformation of the World" promoted by the School of Sciences of the University of Minho in the academic year 2016/2017.
Title: Vertical Gardens
ODS (Sustainable Development Objective): Sustainable Cities and Communities
Description: Quai Branly museum facade composed by a vertical garden. Paris, France.
Museé du Quai Branly in Paris. One of the many buildings in France where the so called “Green Roofs” architecture technique is implemented, such as in many other cities from other countries. Although very recent, this is viable and sustainable alternative to the traditional architecture. The use of vegetation and plant as coverings conveys environmental benefits such as pollution reduction (filtration of suspended particles), thermal insulation and an increase in biodiversity. Moreover, the “Green Roofs” technique is aesthetically appealing and pleasing to the eye.
The President of the School of Sciences, Professor Margarida Casal handed the prize to Ana Margarida Pereira.
